I'm sure most of you have had tea cakes that your grandmother made. I think I can smell them cooking if I think hard enough. Tea cakes were made often because most people had flour, sugar, eggs, and butter. I did use melted butter but I believe most just use the softened butter. I think the melted make it easier to work with. My daughter, Amy, had a cookie-cutter of the state of Alabama tied to my Christmas present so I used it for these tea cakes. I love it and it's an added bonus that the tea cakes are bigger.

Thank you so very much Mama Sue for posting this recipe because not only does this remind me of growing up with my Granny's tea cakes but it helps my heart cause you have given me confirmation that this whole time as an adult I have been doing it right all along I know that sounds crazy but I have doubted myself and only difference between my grandmother's way of doing them and your recipe is the buttering of the baking sheet she lightly greased hers with crisco or if she was out of vanilla she would used almond extract this is so appreciated from my heart many blessings and prayers are spoken on your behalf what a testimony you…
